What happens if I do not go into grief counseling?

If you don’t get help with your grief when it is adversely impacting your daily life, health, and mental functioning, you can experience negative and lasting effects.

For example, not having regular nutrition and sleep can lead to bigger health problems. Not counseling with a therapist about your thoughts of harming yourself could be dangerous, especially if you attempt to harm yourself. If you live alone or work from home, there might not be anyone around who is immediately aware of your thoughts or able to get you into therapy. It’s important to make the best decisions for yourself, including to start accepting this tremendous loss of your loved one and allowing yourself to heal.
